Last Resort Grill has established itself as a strong supporter of the local arts. Each month LRG rotates art by local artists, providing them a free platform to sell and showcase their works within the community.
The current work on display is by Trish Jones, an artist from Madison. I would describe her works as folk-classical, as it represents everyday subject matter with a touch of whimsy. Jones’ work will be up through the end of this month. Hurry to Last Resort to view.
Nothing screams summer like gathering outside with friends, especially when those gatherings take place at restaurants like The Pine. Nestled in Five Points, The Pine has quickly blossomed into one of Athens’ most-beloved places to dine.
Tonight we’re not focusing on The Pine’s delicious eats, but instead their new Summer drink menu. I visited Scott Parrish, owner of The Pine and The Root, on Tuesday to meet his new lineup. As each cocktail arrived, my mouth salivated. These drinks definitely know how to make an entrance! Unfortunately, technology hasn’t advanced enough to allow you to taste from your computer. Therefore, we encourage you to visit The Pine this weekend and try for yourself.

My roommates and I decided to spend our Thursday night at The Rook and Pawn, one of the first board game cafes in the southeast. It took us awhile to decide what to play, as there are over four-hundred board games! We chose Ticket to Ride, and spent nearly two and a half hours competing against one another! It was the perfect way to unwind and share time with one another.
The Rook and Pawn offers a full menu with pub-fancy foods, exceptional spirits, house cocktails, and wine. They also have eight beers on tap, including their own signature brew from Southern Brewing Company; the Equinox ale-sner!
For only $5, we had access to all the games. The Rook and Pawn offers monthly ($25), annual ($95), and lifetime ($650) memberships that will allow you to waive the daily access fee of $5.
The Rook and Pawn is located at 294 W Washington St
Sunday through Thursday: 11am-midnight
Friday and Saturday: 11am-2am
